Mariam Elrazaz

Mariam started her counseling career more than ten years ago in New York City working with adolescents and young adults who suffered from neglect, emotional, sexual and physical abuse in a community-based organization.

She then pursued her Master’s degree in Social Work from Fordham University in New York City, where she focused on clinical practice.

She has extensive experience working with survivors (adults and adolescents) of domestic violence, intimate partner violence and sexual assault.

Mariam worked doing individual, family and group sessions in a variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, prison, community-based organizations and domestic violence/human trafficking shelters.

She is trained in using Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing.

Mariam is also an accredited EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist, an evidence-based therapeutic intervention that treats different types of mental health disorders, such as, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression and panic attacks. She is trained by Trauma Aid UK and EMDR UK trainers.

Mariam served as the head of mental health department at Banati Foundation in Cairo, where she supervised ten psychologists working with girls in danger of street situations and who suffered from severe trauma.

Mariam has vast experience working with a variety of issues, like, anxiety, depression, trauma (PTSD), acculturation issues, domestic and intimate partner violence.

Mariam’s various experiences and intensive trainings allowed her to work with clients from a strength-based perspective where she sees that every person has unique strengths that they can build on to become more resilient and achieve their goals and needs.
