A clinical assessment is an approach that uses an array of methods used by mental health practitioners to evaluate the mental health wellbeing and functioning of clients who are experiencing psychological difficulties. This will help take you to the first step through your journey of mental health wellness. You will receive information on how to start therapy, the kind of therapy that will likely benefit you, what to expect from therapy and an overview of the plan that is decided upon collaboratively between you and your therapist.

With children and adolescents, clinical assessments will also include an interview with their caregivers. Here are some tips on helping your child get ready for their first visit

We encourage you to make a general statement about the experience. An example for this could be “We’re going to talk to a specialist about how you’re feeling and thinking to help you get better.”

Another example could be “When one person in our family is having a tough time, we all need help. This specialist is going to help us.”

You may further inform your little one that this will be done through talking, playing, and carrying out different activities.

Why is this important?

Informing your child beforehand about their visit to the clinic will help lessen their anxiety. This includes information related to the place and the professional they are going to meet and the reasons for this visit. This will also help lay ground for a fruitful connection between your child and the therapist.

To get the most benefit out of your experience, we recommend that you make sure of the following:

  • Filling in the online intake form
  • Kindly note that filling in the form is a prerequisite for booking your spot. In case the online form is not filled before your show up at the clinic, please make sure to arrive at least 30 minutes early to fill in the form before your appointment.
  • We highly recommend filling in the form online, this will help you save time, orient you to the session and allows more time for the therapist to go through your needs thoroughly.
  • Bringing in any relevant documents that could be of help (ex: psychological test results, reports, educational or school reports, previous and/or current medication prescriptions, imaging, lab tests, etc.)

  • During this ongoing time of the COVID-19 pandemic, we offer appointments via online services and in person.
  • For in-person appointments, we kindly require all clients to always wear a mask at all times.
  • Please arrive close to your appointment time to limit the amount of waiting room traffic. You may have only one family member with you.
  • We kindly ask that you cancel your in-person appointment or switch to our online services, if you or anyone in your home has ANY flu or cold-like symptoms.

For the health and safety of our clients, Cairo Psychology Clinic has a “No-Pets” policy.

Although we love animals, you are kindly requested to leave your pet at home during your visit to our clinic.
